Corner Shelves

I designed and built this corner shelving system to make use of an otherwise dead zone in the room—tight, awkward, and boxed in by the wall return and door swing. The form is driven by efficiency and visual lightness: steel angle frames hold each shelf with no visible supports, floating them cleanly in space. I used blackened steel for structure and a patchwork of maple for the surfaces—contrasting warmth and precision.

The geometry isn’t arbitrary; each shelf is a truncated triangle, fitted to nest precisely into the corner while providing functional depth. Heights are staggered for visual rhythm and to accommodate varying object sizes. Everything’s fastened into the studs, with hidden lag bolts countersunk through the steel. No hardware shows.

It’s a quiet intervention, but precise—part furniture, part architecture. Made for a small space with high expectations.
